November 2016 Program:
Rocks, Minerals, Fossils
A Collector’s Perspective

Presented by: Bob Knox, Chris Ward, Maxine Dearborn, Jeff Dengrove

Come join us as several of our members will be presenting an informal talk about rocks, minerals and fossils from a collector’s perspective. Learn how to differentiate, classify, mount and catalog your collections. Learn how to create award winning displays for CFMS competition. Learn about field collecting. There will be many of our personal collections on display including minerals, fossils, cut gemstones, agates, cabochons and more including some of the many awards Del Air members have won over the past 10 years including two Presidents Awards. Should be quite an interesting evening for sure.                            Emmy Silverman – Program Director

October 8, 2016 -  Granada Hills Street Faire

The Del Air Rockhounds Club participated in the Granada Hills Street Faire. Our
booth was a 20’ by 10’ space and we filled it up. We had our spin a wheel, grab bags,
gum ball machine, free education game, touch and feel rocks, handmade gemstone
necklaces and many sellable gemstone items donated by members.
It was a hot day which ran from 8am to 5pm, then booth take down time. It was a
fun day talking to many people and we handed out all our club fliers. Hopefully we will
have some new guests at our next meeting!
We want to Thank Bob Knox for hauling all of our booth stuff to and from the Faire
in his truck. We also want to Thank members Bob Knox, Jim & Shellie VanWinkle,
Chris Ward, Marilyn Murata, Julie Marin and her granddaughter Zoe, Jeff Dengrove
and Bob & Maxine Dearborn for setting up, running and taking down the booth. We
also want to thank member Richard Doyle for coming by and looking at all the items we
had for sale.  It was a good day and we created a lot of interest in our club.

 CFMS November 2016 Field Trip

WHEN: Saturday November 5th at 8:00 am
WHERE: Cady Mountains
MEET: Basin Road exit off I-15 on the South Side for orientation and sign in.
WHAT TO BRING: collecting bags/buckets, rock hammer, digging equipment, safety glasses and spray bottles, First Aid kits. Bring lunch. Plenty of water and a camera, this widespread field offers no shade so use sun screen and protect yourself.

This is the heart of the Mojave Desert and the weather can be unpredictable at this time of year so dress accordingly. This trip may be canceled at the last minute due to bad weather, so please feel free to contact us the night before if weather is questionable.
We will be collecting Agates and Jaspers. From the meeting spot, we will caravan for about 20 minutes to collecting site, we will be traveling thru a sandy wash so 4X4 is a must. Gas and food are available in Barstow. Waiver of liability will be signed at the meeting spot.

If you would like to stay for the weekend, this general area offers a wide variety of material so bring your rock collecting guides. Treat the desert with respect.
Tread lightly and if you pack it in /then pack it out.
