Annual Ice Cream & Bingo Social

As always, our last meeting before summer break (the Del Air Rockhounds Club is dark
in August) is our annual Ice Cream Bingo Social. It’s fun! It’s free!
And there are great rock prizes to be won. We will do our regular club business
first then club member and Federation Director Bob Knox will have a quick
presentation on Volcanic Bombs, picking up where Dennis Miller and Lavere
Schmidt left off last month. Then we will play three games of Bingo followed by
a 15-minute break for Ice Cream and when we return we’ll play another 4 or 5
games with the last one being a black-out.

OH, WONDROUS WORLD!
Salt
is a wonder. When we think that salt is composed of two poisonous substances, we
are filled with wonder. How is it possible that salt, which is necessary to
life, is composed of sodium and chloride, either of which if taken
individually, could kill you? We cannot answer it. It is a wonder.

Water
is a wonder. Its chemical formula is H2O. That means it has two parts of
hydrogen
for each part of oxygen. Oxygen is flammable, hydrogen readily burns. Unite hydrogen
and oxygen into water and you put out fires with it. That

DON’T BUILD A BOMB BY MISTAKE!
NEVER, never, ever fill a metal gas can
that’s in the back of a truck with a plastic bed liner. There is a real
possibility of creating a huge explosion. This is not some rarity. Ford and
Chevron have both sent out alert letters on this. WHY? The plastic bed liner
does not allow the metal gas can to become grounded to the truck. As the gas
fills the can, it creates static electricity. If this static electricity is
discharged sometime during the conclusion of filling the metal gas can, there’s
a spark and then a BIG BOOM!To avoid this, remove the gas can from
the vehicle, put it on the ground and fill it. After it is filled and the lid
replaced, put it back in the truck. Also, before opening or using the gasoline in the can, take the container out
of the truck and put it on the ground to discharge any possible static electricity. Via a 1998 Del Air Bulletin

time of year again where the Del Air Rockhounds go “DARK” for the month of
August. There are no meetings and no bulletin during the month of August.
